House Junkee

Okay, so this is a part 2 of 2 mix from http://www.myhouse-yourhouse.com, where [S]pcl [K] had me spin as her guest DJ on her show, “Bounce Dat Ass Cast.” As I mentioned in Episode 14, we played so long that I had to split the set in two. I also sat down and did a short interview w/ her as well, so here is some of that plus my own insight from what we spoke about that night…

Jonesy: What’s your first memory of House Music?
[S]pcl [K]: It was in New Orleans, where I’m from in 1997…I attended my first rave that year. Before then, I was really into the Southern ghetto hip-hop genre.

Jonesy: Is that when you thought you wanted to DJ…after your first rave?
[S]pcl [K]: No, I just wanted to hang out and dance…I didn’t really consider DJing till I moved to San Francisco and started hanging out with DJs.

Jonesy: When did you move to SF?
[S]pcl [K]: in 2006. I started meeting people, going to clubs and after hours. I had time on my hands, so I was always downloading the newest dance tracks. People would ask why I don’t DJ. That’s pretty much when I thought the same thing. So I bought some equipment and gave it a try.

Jonesy: Was it what you thought it would be?
[S]pcl [K]: No…it was much harder. Spinning did not come easy for me, so I would practice for hours in a day, nonstop. The more I practiced though, the more I wanted it….the skill.

Jonesy:
It’s true, I remember when [S]pcl [K] would spend her weekends indoors, just playing and downloading tracks. She was known for having the dopest tracks…it was clear she had an ear for a DJ…Now, almost 4 years later, her determination and hard work is paying off. [S]pcl [K] is quickly making a name for herself as one of San Francisco’s newest up and coming DJ’s. Which leads me to episode 15 of House Junkee- the 2nd half of our “tag team” recording (I am starting it off on this one). Thanks for your support and enjoy the mix!

"Hello world"
I know it's been a minute since I posted...well, last week, but that's long for me. lol
Last Friday, I was a guest DJ on http://radio.myhouse-yourhouse.net/ for my gurl, [S]pcl [K]'s live show called "Bounce Dat Ass Cast." We had a BLAST! There were so many supporters in the chat room that didn't want us to stop, so we kept it goin'...a little over FOUR HOURS!! ha ha, we were on fire! Anyway, I decided to post the recording up on my podcast but I had to split it into two episodes because the recording was so long. Basically, [S]pcl [K] starts off the set for the first 45 minutes, and I take over for a little over 30 and we go back and forth throughout the recording. I did a little interview with her, which I will be posting on the next episode (15), so keep a look out. It should be up by the weekend.

So, this is a mix I did live last year at this cool party a friend of mine throws every year called "Thanksmas" (kind of a combination of Thanksgiving and Christmas in one). There's a group of amazing people in this DJ collective called "Pink Mammouth" who are the main DJ's for this party. You can check out their new podcast here...(http://pinkmammoth.podomatic.com/). Anyway, they've asked me to spin again this year and I have happily accepted. So I found the live recording they gave me from spinning last year and wanted to share it with you. I know it's a bit short, but every DJ had about a 30-45 minute set because the party was from Noon to Midnight w/ continuous DJs...Pretty F'N Sick! Why did I call it "Hustle", you may ask? Cuz like any "Hustle", I got in and I got out...ha ha

Ah yes...Thanksgiving is upon us. Are you a traditional kind of Turkey-Day-Goer? Or perhaps you're content with a simple No-Mess-Meal from Boston Market? Hell, maybe you just need to catch up on your ZZZzz's? Hah! Either way, I've decided to post my first Thanksgiving episode. Maybe you're family is as crazy as mine and you'll just need to get away to your cousin's room where there's internet and you wanna show them this REALLY COOL podcast with REALLY COOL house music and before you know it...grandma and grandpa find you and all your siblings in this one tiny room with this really good sound system, Jammin' out to the "Gobblin' Beats" House Junkee Podcast. Next thing you know, you're groovin' with the grandparents and family (which truly justifies how crazy your family really is, and if so, then we DEFFINATELY have a lot in common!)! lol

"Ain't No Techno Tease" Mix'd by Jonesy

This interview was just for fun...I was joking around with my friend Kristy because it was her birthday. We were at a party called "Sunset". It is held every year in Stafford Lake a couple of times by an amazing group of DJ's who are a part of Pacific Sound (http://www.pacificsound.net/). You should go to that link and check them out. They throw many other parties in San francisco as well. Anyway, I needed a microphone, so I used what was available (you'll see). Anyhow, due to lack of a "video crew", the video was stopped before it really got going, so I apologize.
